Vegan Oil-Free Gravy

vegan oil free gravy brand new vegan

This Vegan Red Onion Gravy recipe is from Brand New Vegan.

Not only is this recipe oil-free, it’s also low in fat. And, the texture makes for a “happy-medium” gravy: not too thick and not too thin. Goldilocks-style.

But you can always adjust the thickness of the gravy to suit your preferences by altering the amount of flour and liquid you use.

Ingredients:

  • red onions
  • flour
  • red wine
  • vegetable broth
  • soy sauce
  • dijon mustard
  • salt (optional) and pepper

Note(s): Use a low sodium soy sauce (or tamari) and make your own salt-free vegetable broth to keep the recipe lower in sodium.

And you can make it gluten-free by using a gluten-free flour to thicken the gravy as well as a gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.

This gravy could go well on your mashed potatoes, to top off a “whole bowl”, or even as a sauce for a simple bowl of brown rice or other whole grain.

It never hurts to have a low fat (and oil-free) gravy recipe that you can put together fairly quickly.

That way there’s no need to resort to the high-salt, higher fat varieties that come pre-packaged.

They may be extra quick to prepare, but they’re unlikely to taste as good as a freshly cooked batch of your own homemade vegan gravy.

And they certainly won’t be as healthy, that’s for sure.
