  • nutritional yeast*
  • black pepper
  • salt (optional)
  • red pepper flakes

Note(s): Omit the salt if you would like a low sodium bean dip. The beans, herbs, and spices add lots of flavour as it is.

*Regarding nutritional yeast, Dr. Fuhrman’s brand is one of the best options to go with.

Without additives, the nutritional yeast is plain and simple, so you don’t need to worry about getting a bunch of “extras” (like folic acid and other vitamins and chemicals) that are often found in other brands.

It’s nice to know just what you’re getting. And, if you need to supplement with other vitamins, you can always do that separately.

Tip: If you cook a large batch of beans in the Instant Pot and keep them in the fridge for a day or so, it will make the prep for this dip a lot easier (and save time too).

Or, if you have access to some boxed beans or canned, BPA-free beans (like Eden Foods), those could work too. Ideally they’re salt-free, or at least low in salt.

  • I’ve made some bean dips and they haven’t come out tasty, but the other day we were at a dinner theater and they actually had a vegan bean dip that was awesome! So, obviously, I’m looking to give bean dips another shot, especially if they don’t have oil in them and still taste good. I love dill and chive, so I’m looking forward to giving this one a shot.
